Imrecon has developed a range of tools and methodologies for diagnosing incentive regimes, from relatively quick analysis of specific mechanisms to whole-regime simulations.

The chart below is an example output of simulation-based analysis of a regime.

Whole regime simulations involve building a strategic model of the sector or business being regulated and of its regime, over a number of periodic review cycles.  The modelling is relatvely high level, characterising the relevant value drivers but avoiding unnecessary levels of detail.

While whole regime simulations can sometimes provide useful diagnostic insights, the issues of concern to a client are usually more focused and require a lower level of analysis.  Imrecon has a long history of carrying out this kind of analysis, often on an ad hoc basis to help inform internal dialogue on policy issues and policy options.  Imrecon aims to generate quick and easily accessible results, often in graphical form, to help characterise and communicate the underlying dynamics of the issues.

Importantly, Imrecon's work on more focused issues is informed by the experience of whole-regime diagnosis, alert to how different parts of a regime can interact and minimising the risk of unintended consequences of policy decisions.
